Young Guns Break Highlights Fast Night
More great weather and another great turnout for 8 laps of the Scotland course in A/B format. The race started with a break with Forsdike and 3 under 20 riders, Craig Browne, Tim Crosby and Vince De Jong. The break stayed in sight but had a decent gap of maybe 25 seconds. Westhaven mounted a pretty steady chase effort with some CC riders sitting in and a few helping with the chase. The pace was pretty steady and a few A riders were coming unglued. The break stayed away for a good 2.5 laps but was eventually brought back thanks to good chasing by Charlie, Julio, Carlos, Tony, Tony Frosst and a couple others.
Unfortunately there was then a crash with Junior track sensation Vince Dejong going down pretty hard. I spoke to Vince and he is ok except for some serious road rash. He said going down on that bumpy back stretch was like crashing on a cheese grater. The other rider in the crash track rider Mike Reneboog is getting checked out, he may have done something to his elbow.
After the crash the race was fairly active with the fearless Craig Browne showing his ever improving fitness and being active. Also active off the front was Tim Crosby, Charlie, Graydon, Fred Brewer, Tony Frosst and a few others. Nothing serious stuck, but a lot of riders were going out the back. Gutter action on the home straight and a high pace on the hill was a 1/2 punch only about half the pack could handle.
Coming into the final lap what was left of the pack was coming to what looked like a sprint. On the backside Charlie and Graydon took control with Carlos, Julio and Chris near the front. Around the corner Graydon led with Charlie and Chris on his wheel. Graydon slowed and the riders came up from the back including new strong rider Marty Mann from Reynolds and Sean Forbes. The group swelled but managed to stay on the good side of the yellow line. Graydon led it out with Carlos close by and Chris squeking through on the right hand side followed by Julio. Graydon held it to the line with Chris a bike length behind followed by Carlos in third and Julio in 4th. Not sure about 5th place.
Eload Stars of the Night:
Tim Crosby - Very strong for a first year junior
Craig Browne - Strong and fearless
Graydon - There when he needed to be and takes the win
Charlie - Strong as usual
Carlos - active and good sprint for 3rd.
