Wanted to write a brief report about the Clermont training camp Greg and I did.
We arrived on a Wednesday after flying from Detroit to Orlando. Rented a van and check in by about 5pm. Flying is certainly nicer than driving.
Riding started Thursday. The roads are really quite good around Clermont, as long as you know which routes to choose. Did about 3.5 hrs a day including a timed metric century on the Saturday. Overall we got in about 22hrs of riding in 7 days. Believe it or not there are some pretty sharp climbs in the area. The sugarloaf mountain climb is similar to Effingham, just a bit shorter.
Weather was good. No rain and temperatures were decent. Most days were about 10 celcius when we left and closer to 16 or 17 celcius when we returned. We had one cold morning where it was only about 5 when we started, but with the sunshine it felt warmer than that.
Stayed at the Old Bicycle Inn. We rented the apartment which had wireless, TV, etc, but no phone and only a partial kitchen with hotplate. Next year I plan on renting the entire main house and running an official January Camp. It is a great way to break up the winter knowing you can look forward to some nice warm weather riding.
I will post pictures once I get them from Greg of some of the riding.
