I am doing a training camp out of London the week of March 12-15. Rides will be as follows:

Monday 12th - 10am from Missing Link - 1.5 hrs easy Z2

Tuesday 13th - 10am from Missing Link - 3.0 hrs Z2 w/some Z3

Wednesday 14th - Provincials RR course reconnaisance - 3.5 hrs.
Leave London at 8am, travelling to Milton for 8 laps of the 13.75km provincials road course. 8 climbs of Rattlesnake in Z4 (approx 30-35 minutes), rest in Z2 w/some Z3. Park at the top of the hill.*

Thursday 15th - 1pm from Missing Link - 2.5 hours Z2 w/some Z3

The Monday, Tuesday and Thursday rides assume you will have to ride to and from Missing Link, so your total time for the day should be longer than what is indicated.

If the weather looks marginal for Wednesday, I will make the call at 7am and post it here. If Wednesday gets cancelled due to weather, the rain date for Milton is Sunday the 18th, again leaving London at 8am.

If you are available but one of these times does not suit you, let me know and we might change it.

*Also, if Wooley or Salisbury (or anyone familiar with the area) have any ideas for Milton, or would like to lead the ride and include some alternate roads in the area, that would be great. I just want to make sure we get in at least a couple laps of the actual provincials course so that we can see what it is like, decide on gearing and so forth.

Post here or PM me at liokossis@hotmail.com.

Hi Tony,

Rattlesnake is unlike any other hill on the Southern Ontario scene. You really don't have much of a choice to pick your zone. You just survive it the best way you can.
Bring a 25 as a 23 is undergearing for this time of yr. (I went up in a 23 last week and it was not nice)

There are 6 excellent escarpment hills in the area for variety. The next toughest is 14th sideroad , then Steeles ave would be next. All are tough, but not in the League of rattlesnake.

I may join you guys.

Wool is right. There are no zones on this whore. There is no spinning to the top unless you're packing a 27. I'd argue that Bell School Line is almost as tough, but I'm a flabby pantywaist with hairy legs and back-tits. Would love to come out and get dropped, but I've got to work. Dang.

Chuck Norris would like to introduce a Zone 8 now.

Bell School Line and Appleby Line are different but both very tough for short climbs. FWIW, I would rather race up Appleby Line 10 times rather than race up Bell School Line 10 times.

It's a little early for 8 trips up Appleby line. Why don't you guys check it out once and then go do loops up Guelph line (the old mt Nemo training race finishing hill), 2nd Consession, blind line and Brittania. That circuit is pretty good for early season strength. you get 1.1 km of climbing for every 6.7km loop and you _CAN_ spin up the climb or grind it.

BTW, there is always water run-off at the switch back of Appleby line which could be a pain. I would also becareful descending Bell School Line because of loose stone and some bumpiness.

But hey, what do I know --- I only started riding these roads in 1981.

Actually, you dogs just might be in luck... supposedly it's going to be +12 and sunny next week (no lie). I might be out Monday or Tuesday if it is.

Hey Tony,

I might be able to join you for the Wed ride, depending on what time you're riding at. It will depend what my scheduel ends up being.

Cheers,

Blair
