Just a short note on the M1 race in calabogie on Saturday.
Field size was about 50 or so.Weather was cool and drizzly but didn't affect the race.
Race track is 5km with 20 turns on absolutely pristine pavement. Unlike mosport, the terrain has very mild undulations at that's it.
Race was pretty agressive for the first 70km or so as group after group tried to get away. The course just doesn't set up for a break unless there is a big wind. I joined a few moves but they were doomed pretty quickly. Cyclelogik, the Cyclery and another Ottawa squad had big teams and watched each other pretty closely.
Average speed was 41.5 kmh over the 91k, which attests to the speed of the course with a pretty strong Ottawa based field.
The M1 pack made up the 2 min deficit on the S1/2 pack at about 50km due mainly to the field size (S1/2 only had max 20 guys).
Greg Cavanaugh was a marked rider to be sure. The Ottawa based guys knew who he was and jumped any time he made a move. he is in fine form and riding well. Despite this, Greg won the race. A pretty impressive feat.
I finished in the pack and just tried to stay out of the way of the real sprinters.
organization was A1 and would recommend if you don't mind the long drive.
