hey i am hoping some one might have some insight into this issue. i am not sure if i should use my power tap rear wheel in a mavic open pro for the hill climb time trial, or my ksyrium sl rear wheel. is it worth having the power knowledge for pacing in an 7.5 min time trial vs the weight savings or the lighter snappier wheel set likely 2-300 grams savings:confused: i have a set of conti super sonics to keep weight down i could switch tires on the open pro, i am kind of caught, my gut tells me it is so short to just go out pace my self the best i can and go for broke on the hill, any thoughts?

Hi Ryan,
Pacing with a powertap is great, but only if you are 100% accurate you know the correct wattage that will prodcue the optimal result.
If you have done a lot of field tests with a similar 7.5 minute effort or race then the powertap would be a good pacing tool. The problem could be that even if you have done training efforts of 7.5 minutes you can always do more power in a race situation. The risk is you set a wattage that is too low and don't go as fast as you could without wattage.
I would recommend racing with the Ksyrium wheels. Most of my clients train with their powertaps but race with race wheels. Ted V was do his TT races with a deep dish wheel for pacing early in the year but lately he has been using his disk and putting out faster times even without the pacing advantage.
Of course even though it is only 7.5 minutes don't go out full guns blazing in the first 2 minutes. Even my track riders who do 3000 meter pursuits in 3:44 go out a bit easier and ramp their way up.
I hope this helps.
