I recently crashed on my MTB and sustained a large gash and Scrape/burn to my forearm.
I will be riding on my road bike this weekend and am wondering if anyone has any advice on wether to ride with it bandaged or do I let the air at it? This thing freaking hurts when it is bandaged but I do not want it to get infected. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sorry to hear that Wheels. Any stitches? Depending on the size there are some great new bandage products that I have had success with. There are the large bandaids with Silver impregnated into the gauze that help heal and prevent infection. There are some film type patches that cover and breathe I think they are tegaderm and or tesafilm... something like that. My thoughts are cover when riding and clean and let breathe when not. There is something out there about heartrate and broken bones but I dont think that applies to gouges and burns.....
Stay upright
Sibo.

Sibo,
Thanks for the advice and ya I had to get 9 stitches.....man it was ugly...the gash was opened up about 5/8 to 3/4 and you could see the forearm muscle casing. The doc thought my elbow was broken as well but x-rays showed no break:D
The wierd part is ...the scrape/burn part hurts the most and has made sleep very tough.
I went for a ride this evening and my heart rate was depressed by around 15-20 beats.... I am contributing it to lack of sleep. Hopefully I get a good night sleep and am ready for my 2x 20 min zone 4's tomorrow.

My wife is a nurse and she puts duo-derm on me when I fall down and go boom. It is a thick and gooey dressing. She puts that on and then a gauze dressing to cover. It itches like hell because of the healing but it heals fast and reducing the scarring.
Hope that helps!
