Browne and Squires Set Near Record Pace.

A perfect night for racing on the Exeter Crit course. Racing started fairly quick as usual with Charlie going fast out of the gates. The trend was set Early with Brownie doing the first of what must have been about a dozen attacks. Craig was off the front solo for a few laps but was brought back by some hard chasing by Charlie and Forsdike. A few more attacks went up the road most notable Forsdike who was joinged by an impressive bridge by junior provincial champ Vince De Jong. Mike came off and then Carlos, Julio and Charlie brought Vince back. After that Julio got off the front solo. He dangled in front until Brownie started to bridge. Carlos and I went off the front and were just behind. Eventually after some "discussion" between Carlos and I on who should pull we became four. We had a bit of a gap and were just starting to work together when Charlie came up. Charlie and Craig were going blow for blow as I was hanging on for dear life. One by one riders started coming across still the quick pace was being set by Craig and Charlie. Even after most of the pack came up still the duo drove a pace around 45-46 kp/h. The pace was mostly pretty quick, again with Brownie and Charlie doing most of the pace making. With 10 to go it looked like an inevitable field sprint. Joe Torchia put in a strong move but was marked quickly. From lap 10 to 5 to go Charlie was driving the pace and I was convinced he wasn't concerned about the win. With about 5 to go he drifted back a bit and I thought he might go for it. The pace was pretty high and then with 2.5 laps to go Charlie went back to the front. Coming up to the bell the pace slowed a bit and some riders flew up to the front including Kees and Tony. Charlie was still at the front with Brownie on his wheel, then Kees, Vince, Tony and myself. It got a bit dicy as riders tried to get on wheels but coming into the last corner it was Brownie 1st through followed by Tony then me. Brownie pulled away for another impressive win as I nipped Tony for second, Tony was 3rd, Graydon 4th and Kees 5th. Vince took 6th and top junior.

My E load Stars:

Brownie - Clearly one of the 2 strongest and finished the job
Charlie - One of the strongest rides from him this year.
Vince - Clearly on form, very strong
Kees - Always active
Julio - Some good attacks
Carlos - Always near the front and in breaks
Tony - Knows where to be and 3rd in sprint.

Special Award for most fabolous bike goes to the Superstar who is back on his 6/13. He should be a spokesperson for Cannondale and Zipp.

My bike is great. I love my bike.

Tony - in the last few days I've heard you have a 6/13 for sale and that your stolen one was recovered.

Does this create a dilemna?

Are you selling one and building up the other frame with the stuff on your L'Speed?

Still giving up racing and opening a crack house?

When you are passionate enough about an inanimate object to assign the human emotion of love to it you make us wonder what your intentions really are or will be...

I am keeping the old one, selling the new one complete with all the new components and keeping the Litespeed as is as a beater bike for winter. I actually decided to sell the new one before ever riding it before I heard my old one was recovered. I'm 50/50 on giving up racing but I look really bad fat.

Superstar hanging it up? Bah. Won't happen. I don't know much, but I know my bike geeks. If you've been in it this long, you don't leave. It's in your blood. It's like breathing. Someone like the Superstar can hold his breath for a minute or two, but that's it. Plus there'd be roundhouses to the head if he ever tried to quit.
